I don’t really consider myself a poet, I just enjoy writing and find my inspiration from many vices and outlets.
Like most, my teenage years were filled with friendships, love and hope. They can be the best and worst years of one’s life. I had my ups and downs such as the divorce of my parents, the finding of new friendships and loves and their destruction and of course my high school years. My experiences have inspired me to write poetry; as have the people who have been there for me or who I have encountered along the way.
I have found that throughout life sometimes one’s emotions, especially during your peak time of puberty, cannot be spoken, for the words can’t really convey one’s true feelings. I found an outlet for my thoughts through poetry and verse. I let the ink in my pen and the lead in my pencil become my voice with my hand becoming my mind controlling my thoughts. I let the paper be my listener. It can’t judge you, but somehow when you put pen to paper a resolution for your thoughts is provided.
I don’t claim to be the world’s greatest poet and that is why even my first poem is included in this collection. It is there to encourage others to use poetry and verse to be an outlet for their thoughts, for sometimes when you can’t say what you mean you can write it. I often find that once I have written a poem or verse about my problems and then I put my pen down and put the poem away the problem disappears with it.
For those who are reading this and want to know about some of the poems or verses that were written I have included notes where some explanation may be required. If you are reading deeper into these then it might be good to know that the teenage girl who “features prominently” throughout grew up to become a mum of two beautiful girls. She married a handsome young man who has been her soul mate for over 18 years and she now has a very good relationship with her dad. 🙂
ENJOY!
