Growing Pains

People talk about growing pains,
But do we really know what this means.
Is it the aching in one’s joints,
Or the squeaking of one’s voice.
I believe that growing pains,
Is the hurt we feel inside.
The fear of getting older,
Stepping into the great unknown.
It is a fear of getting dumped,
Of getting hurt by your first true love.
Growing pains is about fighting with one’s parents,
About what WE think is right.
They are the massive headaches we experience,
After our first big party.
The words growing pains describes the stress
We experience from school.
All the exams, homework and projects.
But most of all I believe growing pains,
Are the fears that the child within us all is no longer there.
Being replaced.
In its place a young adult is born.
This young adult is scared;
Scared of doing something wrong,
Of getting the right marks,
Of finding the right job.
Yes it is true, this is a different type of growing pain.
As one gets older, the degree and type of growing pain changes.
However no matter what, it always remains.
They come in this order:

1-5 Learning to walk and talk, become a person.

5-10 Going to school and developing an identity.

10-15 The discovery of the social life and high school. Oh not too mention relationships.

15-20 These are the years of overload. WE have high school, which means exams, projects and HEAPS of homework. Not forgetting the endless amount of relationships that are thought to last forever. These are the years that our hormones are in turmoil and towards the end we start to think about the dreaded W word Work.

20-25 Some choose to study, others get married and start a family and develop a career. The years between 25-40 are mainly focused on marriage, families, work , money and for some divorce. We begin to accept life as it is.

40-50 Are the years of the dreaded MID LIFE CRISIS!

50-? Spent worrying about retirement and unfortunately death.

So as you can see no matter what anyone says growing pains don’t go away. Life is just one continuous circle of experience……
