Brave & Strong

Be brave, be strong, be bold
Don’t let them see you cry
Stand tall amongst your brothers
I don’t want to hear the words good bye.

They tell you when put on your uniform
That you have chosen the good fight
But what they do not tell you
Is to fight isn’t always right.

You will be asked to turn a blind eye
To keep the secrets of the past
You will fight for hope and freedom
That forever will not last.

While we thank you for your sacrifice
And we thank you for your service
What we will never be able to do
Is take back what makes you nervous.

No one can take away the memories Or take away the strain
We will never know
How much war has caused you pain.

For all of those who have fought
You are an inspiration
As we try to believe that sending young people off to war
Is for the good of our great nation.

From living rooms and driveways
Monuments, schools and homes
We say thank you to the men and women
For our children free to roam.

Today is ANZAC day
A day to honour the lives we have lost
And remember that our freedom
It comes with a high cost.

Before

Before you fly you must fall.
Before you run you must walk.
Before you are heard you must speak.
Before you talk you must listen.
Before you love you must learn.
Before you win you must lose.
Before you heal you must forgive.
Before you sleep you must wake.
Before you die you must live.
Before you see you must be present.
Before you hear you must listen.
Before you can be you, you must accept.

For men and women of the force

I put on my uniform
Not to be brave
I don’t head out everyday
Hoping a life I will save.

I put on my badge
I pick up my gun
I say goodbye to my pride
And I step into the sun.

My days are spent not knowing
What will come my way
What I will encounter
What I will have to say.

My family and friends
Aren’t inside my head
They just pray everyday
That I won’t end up dead.

It’s not fair not knowing
What your day will hold
Will you encounter a murderer
Or just someone who is old?

Will I need to tell someone
That they aren’t going to die
Will I have to hide away
So no one sees me cry.

My job is to protect you
From the good and the bad
Please don’t make my job hard
Please don’t make my family sad.

We work in emergency services
And we love what we do
We serve and we protect
Everyday people like you.

So honour those who have fallen
Don’t let their memories fade away
Walk a day in our shoes
And when we lose one of our own stand with me and pray.

The Artist

Blank is the canvas
You don’t see what I see
I see colour and lines
To be painted by me.

I see animals and nature
But not outside
My paintbrush does the work
That Mother Nature tries to hide.

I am an artist
And I create works of art
I see natural beauty
I paint from the heart.

My paint strokes are my words
They are talking to you
While the colours I use
Show a birds beauty, some yellow, some blue.

While nature is quiet
My art is its voice
For my blank canvas gives nature
A reason to rejoice.

In the giving and sharing
Of a bird or a frog
I can share my gift with you
It maybe an emu, or an owl on a log.

I will take this blank canvas
And give it a face
I’ll let my mind create beauty
Watch nature and art interlace.

N.B – Written for my niece who is a wonderful young artist who loves to paint animals.

Christmas

Christmas and friends
Go hand in hand.
And for those with family
In a far off land,
Remember to say thanks
For the year gone by
And remember those
Who are no longer close by.
With joy in your hearts
And a smile on your face
Don’t let a Christmas drink
Make you a disgrace.
Dance and sing
With your family and friends
And be grateful for the gifts
That Santa sends.
Merry Christmas my friends
My family and all
It is time for bed
Now that it’s night fall.

Dear Funny Man

Dear funny man
Tell me about your life
Tell me how you like to laugh
Tell me about your wife.

Dear funny man
Tell me a joke
Tell me a funny story
Tell me how you became such a good bloke.

Dear funny man
Tell me about your day
Tell me about your kids
Tell me how you keep your demons at bay.

Dear funny man
What’s behind the smile
What’s behind the jokes and laughter
Why do you feel like you are on trial?

Dear funny man
You don’t see what others see
You don’t see that you are funny
You don’t see you like me.

Dear funny man
Your eyes reveal the truth
Underneath the smoke and mirrors
Your soul reveals the innocence of youth.

Dear funny man
It’s time to say goodbye
May your jokes live on forever
While the rest of us mourn and cry.

Trust

Trust is something that must be earned.
It is not something that can be learned.
For to have trust in someone is to know them well.
And trust, trust that they will never tell.

Read me like a book

Read me like a book,
Let my features be the words.
Read me like a book,
Let your thoughts be heard.
Read me like a book,
Let your eyes be the light.
Read me like a book,
Let me guide you through the night.

Worry

You worry about what you’re going to be
Or what you’re going to see.
You worry about your life
Whether or not you’ll get in strife.
You worry about the good times
And especially about the bad.
You worry about success
And all this makes you sad.
For you shouldn’t have to worry
A good person is what you are
You have a natural flair
You make people care.
What you always must remember
Is that we are all unique in our own special way.
And worrying your life away
Will never really pay.

Our minds

The uncharted territories of the mind.
Come alive within a dream.
It is here that we seek to find
And discover things when things are not as they seem.
For it is within our subconscious
The thoughts that lay within
Where we find out who we are.
Or allow the creature to commit its sin.
Our minds can explore!!!
