For Alan… I can’t predict the future

While I don’t know what tomorrow will bring

I know that you are near when I hear a power tool sing .

When a hammer hits a nail and a drill does start

There will be a memory that stirs within my heart.

With the revving of an engine and the sound of a horn

I will remember you working from night until dawn.

Some men are just born with a tool in their hand

With every pillar and post they leave a legacy on our land.

You my dear Alan are one such a man

Who when somebody asks, you always say “no worries I can”.

While your time with us won’t be as long as it should be

We hope that our love for you, you will see.

You leave behind such greatness, a man full of dreams

You won’t be forgotten your life lives within our structures and beams.

The future will soon see us saying goodbye

But know dear Alan that your legacy will never die.

For every board that I walk and every tree that I pass

I will remember you mate and your memory will last.

Brave & Strong

Be brave, be strong, be bold
Don’t let them see you cry
Stand tall amongst your brothers
I don’t want to hear the words good bye.

They tell you when put on your uniform
That you have chosen the good fight
But what they do not tell you
Is to fight isn’t always right.

You will be asked to turn a blind eye
To keep the secrets of the past
You will fight for hope and freedom
That forever will not last.

While we thank you for your sacrifice
And we thank you for your service
What we will never be able to do
Is take back what makes you nervous.

No one can take away the memories Or take away the strain
We will never know
How much war has caused you pain.

For all of those who have fought
You are an inspiration
As we try to believe that sending young people off to war
Is for the good of our great nation.

From living rooms and driveways
Monuments, schools and homes
We say thank you to the men and women
For our children free to roam.

Today is ANZAC day
A day to honour the lives we have lost
And remember that our freedom
It comes with a high cost.

Life’s Puzzle

Do you ever feel like your life is like a puzzle?
You start building from the outside in.
Your family and friends become the outside frame
and slowly but surely you fit the pieces together.
Sometimes a piece may not fit
or a piece may go missing
and you will struggle to go on.
But as you continue to rearrange the pieces
your puzzle slowly comes together.
Don’t be afraid to pull the puzzle apart and start a new one with fresh pieces.
Because it doesn’t mean that the other puzzle no longer exists.
It means that particular puzzle has been completed.
It is time to move on.
If you are struggling to find all of the pieces to your puzzle
don’t panic.
Take some time to re-evaluate the puzzle.
There may be excess pieces you don’t need
or there are more to be found.
As long as your borders are strong you will be fine.

I am an Aussie farmer

For years the clouds lay dormant
With not a drop of rain.
Then suddenly the heavens opened
To help us heal the pain.

But the water it kept coming
Across our barren land.
It flowed and flowed for miles
Into the dried out desert sand.

The cattle they were happy
There was water for their day.
But upon the rain soaked soil
Their lifeless bodies do now lay.

I will never understand it
How can Mother Nature be so cruel.
We waited for so long
Now I feel like such a fool.

But I am an Aussie farmer
And you will not keep me down.
For I may be near rock bottom
But you will not see me frown.

I will put my hat and boots on
And I will go out on my land.
Because I know Australia’s with me
And everyone will lend a hand.

I am an Aussie farmer
And I will fight until the end.
Mother Nature has nothing
On the love and spirit our community will send.

The Tear

The tear I shed
You will never see
But it is for you
For you and me.

I wish to see
Your little smile
To hold your hand
Just for awhile.

I want to hold you
In my arms
To caress your head
Know all the charms.

I long to be with
My little one
To hear their laugh
While having fun.

But this moment
Is not to be
For my little one
Was set free.

My baby angel
Has beautiful wings
Rainbow colors
For which my heart sings.

Our time was short
I had to say goodbye
But now my child
You have wings to fly.

Look Deep

Have you ever looked so deeply
Into someone else’s eyes
And known in an instant
That they are life’s greatest prize.
I feel this every morning
When I wake up in your arms
Everyday you complete me
And wow me with your charms.
You are the father of our children
The wind beneath my wings
You are my knight in shining armor
You are there for me no matter what life brings.
I know I can count on you
My partner and my friend
I know you will be there for me
Until the very end.
Andrew know I love you
And all that we can do.
Together we make a team
That can make all our dreams come true.
You are my always and forever
My gift from above
And with you by my side
We can achieve anything my love.
It took awhile to get to know you
But front the beginning I could see
That your heart I knew I wanted
And now you have given me the the key.

Reality

Reality is realizing you don’t know when to stop
Reality is preventing yourself from tiring until you drop
Reality is knowing when to take a break
Reality is seeing when your life is fake
Reality is stronger than the pain the lies within
Reality is sometimes a deep dark hidden sin
Reality can be cold and harsh amongst the light
Reality is confronting and can make you want to fight
Reality can be scary and is sometimes a quiet unknown
Reality is your mind telling you that the demon inside has grown
Reality is a like a seed that lay quiet within your soul
Reality is the darkness that can swallow your life whole
Reality can be sad and it can be happy to
Reality is what you make it, don’t let it take over you
Reality is a reminder that you are part of the human race
Reality can let you know that you don’t always have to keep pace.

Don’t look away

Don’t look away
You can’t hide from what you see.
Dad don’t look away
That little girl is me.
You left so long ago
But the memory still remains
You weren’t here to watch me grow
Or see my growing pains.
Your tears they meant nothing
And sorry was just a word
I was a voice amongst the darkness
That wanted to be heard.
You came back in to my life
You said sorry and asked me me to forgive
Then life went on And a new life we did live.
But as your memories faded
And life became a bit tough
You started to need help
And our relationship again was rough.
I am trying to understand
That your mind it isn’t strong
And that you don’t mean to hurt me
When things are going wrong.
The illness that is taking you
Is cruel and can be slow
But not matter what dad
My help and love for you will grow.
You will always be my father
The man who taught me how to ride
I know that you love me
And that you will forever look at me with pride.
I will be there for you dad
Don’t let the memories die
I will hold your hand to the end dad
So hold your head up high.
New memories we will make dad
And no one will take them away
Because unlike you dad
I am here to stay.

Before

Before you fly you must fall.
Before you run you must walk.
Before you are heard you must speak.
Before you talk you must listen.
Before you love you must learn.
Before you win you must lose.
Before you heal you must forgive.
Before you sleep you must wake.
Before you die you must live.
Before you see you must be present.
Before you hear you must listen.
Before you can be you, you must accept.

A Great Man

For Joe…..

There once was a man
So full of might.
He lived life to its fullest
Especially from a great height.
“What could possibly go wrong”
Was what his friends would hear.
Life is to be lived
Lived without fear.
He had a love for his family
His friends and his work.
He loved to make others money
And often did it with a smirk.
He bought joy to so many
He had a heart of gold.
He loved the outdoors
When he was born god really broke the mould.
From paddock to playground
This great man felt at home.
For he lived his life with a freedom
That allowed him to roam.
While his skiing prowess
Was admired by all.
He was always there to help others
If they were to fall.
He was known for his pranks
And enjoyed a good laugh.
He spent time with his mates
He did not live life by half.
This great man’s name was Joe
Say his name out loud.
Because how this man lived
Made everyone proud.
While he is no longer on this earth
He leaves a legacy of love.
And his family and friends know
He will always be watching over them from above.
