For Alan… I can’t predict the future

While I don’t know what tomorrow will bring

I know that you are near when I hear a power tool sing .

When a hammer hits a nail and a drill does start

There will be a memory that stirs within my heart.

With the revving of an engine and the sound of a horn

I will remember you working from night until dawn.

Some men are just born with a tool in their hand

With every pillar and post they leave a legacy on our land.

You my dear Alan are one such a man

Who when somebody asks, you always say “no worries I can”.

While your time with us won’t be as long as it should be

We hope that our love for you, you will see.

You leave behind such greatness, a man full of dreams

You won’t be forgotten your life lives within our structures and beams.

The future will soon see us saying goodbye

But know dear Alan that your legacy will never die.

For every board that I walk and every tree that I pass

I will remember you mate and your memory will last.

Don’t look away

Don’t look away
You can’t hide from what you see.
Dad don’t look away
That little girl is me.
You left so long ago
But the memory still remains
You weren’t here to watch me grow
Or see my growing pains.
Your tears they meant nothing
And sorry was just a word
I was a voice amongst the darkness
That wanted to be heard.
You came back in to my life
You said sorry and asked me me to forgive
Then life went on And a new life we did live.
But as your memories faded
And life became a bit tough
You started to need help
And our relationship again was rough.
I am trying to understand
That your mind it isn’t strong
And that you don’t mean to hurt me
When things are going wrong.
The illness that is taking you
Is cruel and can be slow
But not matter what dad
My help and love for you will grow.
You will always be my father
The man who taught me how to ride
I know that you love me
And that you will forever look at me with pride.
I will be there for you dad
Don’t let the memories die
I will hold your hand to the end dad
So hold your head up high.
New memories we will make dad
And no one will take them away
Because unlike you dad
I am here to stay.

For Gill

When you walked into a room,
One’s heart did skip a beat.
Because what you said next,
Could sometimes have me falling off my seat.

Your smile lit up a room.
Your whisper was like a stereo on loud.
But no matter what life’s troubles,
You always had a smile for the crowd.

You worked from dawn till dusk,
To get your job done well.
Because your team was counting on you,
And never heard you yell.

You were the person we could depend on,
To be a friend, a colleague, a pal.
You were trustworthy through and through,
A one off friendly gal.

While you were a hurricane in life,
And your tidiness… not the best.
You always pulled a rabbit out of the hat,
When life put you to the test.

You will be forever missed Gilly jelly bean,
By your team, your family and your friends.
You were taken far to soon.
But your memory and laughter never ends.

N.B – Written for a work colleague who passed away unexpectedly.

Jayde

You give me grey hair.
Your life is full of flair.
You drive me round the bend.
Then a beautiful message you will send.
You keep me on my toes.
You are there for me during life’s woes.
You are my lil sis.
And for your b’day I send you a wish and a kiss xo

Trust your judgement

When I look into your eyes
I don’t see what others see,
I see someone lost and angry
In desperate need to be free.

I don’t see happiness and laughter
I see heartache and pain.
But as your older sister
I want you to feel whole again.

Tell me about your pain
Don’t keep me in the dark.
Tell what’s on your mind
Help me find your inner spark.

It wasn’t easy growing up
But there’s nothing we can do,
About what happened in the past
But at least now I can be there for you.

Because no matter what the torment
Or how great the pain,
Let me take upon my shoulder
Your tears as they rain.

Let me help you through your journey
Help me to understand.
I will be right by your side
I am here to hold your hand.

I want to get to know you.
Not who you think you are.
I want to get to know YOU
The person behind the scar.

Don’t let the people in our lives
Become speed bumps in your road.
Just keep driving lil sis
Unburden your heavy load.

Don’t let the past shape your life
Your future is yours to take.
Don’t listen to those who say they love you.
When you know their words are fake.

Trust your judgement and your heart
Listen to what they have to say.
And know that you are growing stronger
Every single day.

You are courageous and so strong
Don’t give up your fighting spirit.
Hold your head up proud
And know this world is better because you’re in it.

I love you. Xo

To mothers who are no longer here

To mothers who are no longer here
Your love and warmth is always near.
From your loving looks to your knowing glare
You were always there when I needed someone to care.
Today and always I long for your kiss
And your warm hugs I will always miss.
But know my angel mum that your spirit lives on In your children,
your grandchildren, your legacy is never gone.
My love for you is always strong
So happy Mother’s Day angel mum
For in gods arms you now belong.

For Grace

You are the twinkle in my eye.
Your smile lights up the sky.
You are our precious baby girl.
Your first year has been a whirl.

N.B. – Written for my youngest daughter on her first birthday.

Happy 30th Birthday Lil Sis

A big sister I became.
To a special little person,
Jayde was her name.

She held my little finger,
And gave me a little smile.
Her face was like an angel,
While her nappies, they were vile.

She touched my heart so gently,
And screamed really loud.
But that didn’t matter,
Because I was so very proud.

There was an instant bond,
When you came into my life.
But I should have known then,
That I was going to be in strife.

It was the twinkle in your eye,
That should have given it away.
That said no matter what,
My house is where you would always want to stay.

We have always been so different,
Unique in our own special way.
You liked to play with cars,
While I liked to clean all day.

I prefer the opera,
You prefer hard rock.
I drove you to school,
You drove me around the block.

You like to party,
I like to stay at home.
I like to save money,
Where as you’d prefer a loan.

Then one day you left,
And we said our goodbyes.
As I watched you take an adventure,
Flying high into the skies.

It was one of many of life’s journeys,
That you would take me on.
For as your older sister,
I missed you most when you were gone.

While we sometimes fight like cats and dogs,
And we are like chalk and cheese.
When we need each other,
There’s no need to even say please.

Our personalities are different,
And our looks aren’t the same.
But none of that even matters,
Because your big sister I remain.

I am so very proud of you,
And all that you’ve become.
You are so very special,
And you should be proud of what you have done.

I love you more then ever,
And admire your many quirks.
But our differences are insignificant,
Because as sisters we are a team that works.

So happy birthday Jadey,
Or so your friends would say.
But from me your big sis,
Have a very special 30th birthday.

Pre-Prep Year Blues

With the sharpest of minds
And a twinkle in her eye
I just saw my babies life
Fly right on by.

With ribbons in her hair
And new shiny shoes
Mummy now has the
The pre-prep year blues.

Gone are the cheeks
That I used to squeeze
Replaced with a grin
And manners such as please.

I am now left to wonder
Have I done enough?
Should I have read to her more?
Have I been too tough?

Will she miss her mummy,
Will she still need me to hold her tight?
Will she still need;
Her mummies kiss goodnight?

I miss her already,
Her constant chatter and stares.
For I hope that she knows,
That the love her mummy has for her….well nothing compares.

N.B. – Written for my daughter when she started school.

Ashes in the wind

We stand here today
To honour those passed.
And share the love of two people
Forever in our hearts.

You married so young
And built solid foundations.
And then produced
Four of god’s greatest creations.

Your home was always full
Of the smell of fresh treats.
While the noise from downstairs
Meant new toys from hammer beats.

Your bowling prowess
Was admired by all.
And for many long years
You kept rolling that ball.

Then along came the grandkids
The great grandkids and more love.
But you were never afraid.
To get stern and give them a shove.

Christmas was the best
With your home a festive feast.
Our tummies were full
To the brim to say the least.

Then when two became one
We did our best to cope.
And we were left with our Boompa
Boy was he a top bloke!

The memories we created
And the love that we shared.
Will live within us all
And cannot be compared.

Your souls are now one
And you are reunited again.
And it is with a heavy heart
That we say goodbye and amen.

N.B – Written for my grandparents. Two of the most special people in my life.
