My mummy

My mum is my saviour,
A ray of shining light.
She used to kiss my forehead,
And tuck me in every night.

She answered my every question,
And listened to my chatter.
And even when her head hurt,
She said it didn’t matter.

With changing time and age,
My wealth of questions remained.
But the person that could answer them,
Was the same woman whose love never waned.

This person was you mum,
The woman who gave me life.
The person to this day,
Is always there if I’m in strife.

But you are no longer just my mum,
You are also a grand parent.
To a little person who loves you,
And your love for her is apparent.

Throughout life’s many twists and turns,
You have remained a constant friend.
A true gift from god,
Someone for which I know I can depend.

Thank you for your courage,
And thank you for your strength.
But most of all thank you mum,
For your love for which there is no length.

The friend

I don’t pretend to know other’s problems,
And I don’t pretend to know how to solve them.
But if I can lend an ear,
Be a sounding board if you will,
Then the part of the listener I will play.
It is not up to me to judge,
Yet if I can give advice,
Or in a small way help ease the pain,
Then my job as a friend is done.

A view from above

When I see a plane above so high,
I wonder why god didn’t give us wings to fly.
When I see a star twinkle in the sky,
I think of things I can’t deny.
The answer to prayers lay above.
Just as freedom begins with the release of a dove.
The mysteries of life, can be seen in a light,
In the moon and the stars during the night.
As a spec of moon dust glides through the air,
I find myself free and without a care.
As a plane takes off, leaving troubles behind,
I begin to ponder the mysteries of mankind.
When I see the world from a different view,
It makes me think life’s journey through.
When I view the city from above,
I think of my friends, my family and love.

The inner demon

Fade away into the night,
Take with you your blinding light.
You are a stranger, I don’t know.
Your strange site,
It scares me so.
Why is it that you can’t show,
Your true self amongst the lies.
The family ties,
That keep you hear.
It’s your other self that keeps you near.
You aren’t the one who needs to be,
What can I do to set you free.
We are two of one,
But this can’t be.
Because when I’m you,
I can’t be me.
You are a storm that lies within.
Dormant you wait,
To commit a sin.
The face without a name,
A hidden agenda,
To silence your fame.

Take me away

Take me away from all the mess,
Keep me sane
I need my rest
I need to sleep
I have to work
I’m like a clock
I cannot stop
I think
I hear
I see
I need a place where I can be me.
Life is tough
Will it always be
I work so hard
On just being me.

Time to say goodbye

To reflect upon one’s life
Is not an easy task
For many things may happen
With many questions asked.
As we achieve so very much
We think about the past
And ask ourselves if the memories
Fresh in our minds will last.
For as we approach the end
Of a chapter in our lives
We must always hope
The spirit in our hearts survives.
It is up to us now
I hear the teachers’ say
It is time to get serious
About work and study, not play.
Yet what they do not realise
Is that the child within our hearts
Is the drum that keeps us going
Allows us to play our parts.
The spirit of survival
That lies within us all
Is like a judge and a jury
That allows us to rise and fall.

So don’t let us get off track
And help us on our way
For as the end approaches
Hold my hand and pray
And tell me that forever
Friends we will always stay.
For we don’t want to say goodbye
And become one of many
We don’t want to play our part
Or make a new fresh start.
We just want to stay
The way we’ve always been
The heart, the soul, the spirit

N.B – Written for my class at the end of year 12.

A songwriter’s words

I can think what I feel.
I can say what feel.
I can write what I feel.
But I cannot sing,
Another’s feelings.
A songwriter’s words,
are his emotions.
His notes are his feelings.
I cannot sing,
And deny that artist
of what he really feels.
Music is art.
And art is an outlet for one’s thoughts.
Therefore to sing anothers’ song
Is to try and mimic their passion.

One year on

This time last year
I was happy.
Now one year later
I’m sad.
For I thought it would
Last forever.
Until everything went
Bad.
It wasn’t how I
Expected.
Love isn’t meant to
hurt.
But now
one year later.
You’ve treated me
like dirt.
Ever since the day
You said you
didn’t have time.
I wished that
you were still mine.
One year goes
So fast.
And even though
I’ve tried.
I can’t put our love
In the past.
What hurts most is
you lied.
Memories are what I
have left.
Even though one years
Gone by.
And although you don’t
Give a damn.
I will not let the past
Just die.

Confidence

I tell my friends to have confidence,
To believe in what they do.
I tell them that they are the best,
Better than the rest.
Although I tell them this
It is something that I lack,
For confidence in myself,
Is something I want back.
I try to tell myself
That I can achieve all the goals I set,
But to believe in myself,
Is something I forget.
I’m a nobody in this world,
I want to make my mark.
But then I sit back and wonder,
Wonder, where on earth do I start.
I have so many ambitions.
But where do they go from here.
My friends say to go for it,
It falls upon deaf ears.
When people put me down
I try to ignore what they say.
But the comment won’t go away.
And I end up believing,
Every word that they relay.

So…….No matter who you are,
Or where you want to go.
As long as you have dreams and goals,
That’s all you need to know.

You may come across a hurdle,
You think you cannot jump.
But as long as you have confidence,
There’s nothing that can stump.

For winner’s are created,
From the belief in one’s self.
That all they can do is there best,
Even if sometimes life,
Really puts them to the test.

There are people who will love you
No matter what you do,
Because throughout life everyone makes mistakes,
Even if they don’t mean to.

Nobody is perfect,
In every single way.
But those who make things happen
And believe in what they say,
Will turn out better people,
And come out on top each day.
