My lil sis

While I miss you everyday,
I know it’s for the best.
As your zest for life and adventure,
Means you need to travel before you rest.

You are my lil sis,
And one of my best friends.
And I will be here for you,
When your journey ends.

We love you very much,
Friend, sis and aunt.
I am so very proud of you,
And don’t ever want you to think you “can’t”.

You are beautiful inside and out,
And your spirit is so free.
And when you decide to come home,
The first person to greet you will be me.

My mummy

My mum is my saviour,
A ray of shining light.
She used to kiss my forehead,
And tuck me in every night.

She answered my every question,
And listened to my chatter.
And even when her head hurt,
She said it didn’t matter.

With changing time and age,
My wealth of questions remained.
But the person that could answer them,
Was the same woman whose love never waned.

This person was you mum,
The woman who gave me life.
The person to this day,
Is always there if I’m in strife.

But you are no longer just my mum,
You are also a grand parent.
To a little person who loves you,
And your love for her is apparent.

Throughout life’s many twists and turns,
You have remained a constant friend.
A true gift from god,
Someone for which I know I can depend.

Thank you for your courage,
And thank you for your strength.
But most of all thank you mum,
For your love for which there is no length.

The friend

I don’t pretend to know other’s problems,
And I don’t pretend to know how to solve them.
But if I can lend an ear,
Be a sounding board if you will,
Then the part of the listener I will play.
It is not up to me to judge,
Yet if I can give advice,
Or in a small way help ease the pain,
Then my job as a friend is done.

For my unborn child

You are but a seed
A tiny glimmer of hope
An underlying need
A piece of string without the rope.

You are what I long for
And for us it takes so long
But when we finally get there
You will be greeted with a song.

I was told by the beyond
That you would come my way
But that I had to be patient
And persist with life each day.

As I watched those around me
Achieve what I wanted most
My burning desire within
Was delivered by a ghost.

For I am thankful everyday
For the gift I grow inside
The gift of a small life
Which my smile cannot hide.

For you will be here soon
And we can’t wait to meet you Grace
For your mummy and your daddy
Eagerly await your tiny face.

N.B – After three failed IVF attempts I fell naturally with my beautiful daughter Grace. I wrote this for her before she was born.

For my cousin

You are the person I can count on.
The one who really cares.
You are the person I can talk to,
When everyone else just stares.
From the moment you were born,
Friends we were to be.
A special bond was created,
Of friendship, love and hope.
This special bond has developed,
And helped us both to cope.
For as we reach an age,
Where time is of the essence.
We cannot always rely,
On each other’s presence.
However no matter how little time,
Or distance that lay between,
Or how long it has been
Since each other we have seen.
The special link of cousins,
And especially that of friends,
Will forever grow stronger,
Throughout life’s many bends.

So no matter where you go,
Or who you meet along the way.
The promise I give you,
Is that friends we will stay.
For if ever you are lonely,
Or life’s a little bland.
I will always be close by,
To lend a helping hand.

For my grandparents

Our love has a unique quality.
You are not my age,
Yet when I need someone
You are there.
When I do something wrong,
You are there to guide my actions.
You have watched me bloom,
Like a rose in spring
Helping me grow and mature.
You have cooked for me,
Taken care of me
But most importantly,
You have loved me.

Many people enter and leave my life,
Yet you will always remain
Two of the most prominent people in my world,
In body and spirit.
I feel lucky
And honored
To be able to say.
You are my grandparents.

Daddy Don’t Go

You said you’d be back soon,
That three years wasn’t a long time.
You said you’d be back soon,
That your love will always be mine.
You said you’d be back soon,
And you held me really tight.
You said you’d be back soon,
You said “Rosey it’s all right”.
You said you’d be back soon,
Then you took me by the hand.
You said you’d be back soon,
That you had to go to a far off land.
You said you’d be back soon,
And you told me not to worry.
You said you’d be back soon,
But daddy was in a hurry.
You said you’d be back soon,
But that was just a lie.
You said you’d be back soon,
That you didn’t mean to make me cry.
You said you’d be back soon,
But that wasn’t meant to be.
You said you’d be back soon,
Then another love made you forget about me.
You said you’d be back soon,
But now I’m all grown up.
You said you’d be back soon,
Daddy’s love will keep me tough.
You said you’d be back soon,
You told a little girl.
You said you’d be back soon,
And you played with her little curl.
You said you’d be back soon,
Your daughter I want to be.
You said you’d be back soon,
Daddy that little girl was me.
You said you’d be back soon,
And still it’s just a lie.
You said you’d be back soon,
That’s always followed by goodbye.
You said you’d be back soon,
As you wiped away a tear.
You said you’d be back soon,
And still I wait year after year.
